Torus quotients as global quotients by finite groups

چکیده
This article is motivated by the following local-to-global question: is every variety with tame quotient singularities globally the quotient of a smooth variety by a finite group? We show that this question has a positive answer for all quasi-projective varieties which are expressible as a quotient of a smooth variety by a split torus (e.g. simplicial toric varieties). Although simplicial toric varieties are rarely toric quotients of smooth varieties by finite groups, we give an explicit procedure for constructing the quotient structure using toric techniques. This result follow from a characterization of varieties which are expressible as the quotient of a smooth variety by a split torus. As an additional application of this characterization, we show that a variety with abelian quotient singularities may fail to be a quotient of a smooth variety by a finite abelian group. Concretely, we show that P/A5 is not expressible as a quotient of a smooth variety by a finite abelian group.

Transversality theory, cobordisms, and invariants of symplectic quotients
This paper gives methods for understanding invariants of symplectic quotients. The symplectic quotients that we consider are compact symplectic manifolds (or more generally orbifolds), which arise as the symplectic quotients of a symplectic manifold by a compact torus. A companion paper [23] examines symplectic quotients by a nonabelian group, showing how to reduce to the maximal torus. Through...
متن کاملOn Measures Invariant under Tori on Quotients of Semi-simple Groups
We classify invariant and ergodic probability measures on arithmetic homogeneous quotients of semisimple S-algebraic groups invariant under a maximal split torus in at least one simple local factor, and show that the algebraic support of such a measure splits into the product of four homogeneous spaces: a torus, a homogeneous space on which the measure is (up to finite index) the Haar measure, ...
متن کاملA classification of hull operators in archimedean lattice-ordered groups with unit
The category, or class of algebras, in the title is denoted by $bf W$. A hull operator (ho) in $bf W$ is a reflection in the category consisting of $bf W$ objects with only essential embeddings as morphisms. The proper class of all of these is $bf hoW$. The bounded monocoreflection in $bf W$ is denoted $B$. We classify the ho's by their interaction with $B$ as follows. A ``word'' is a function ...
متن کاملComputing Polycyclic Quotients of Finitely (L-)Presented Groups via Groebner Bases
We announce the development and implementation of a new GAP package PCQL. This facilitates the computation of consistent polycyclic presentations for polycyclic quotients of groups defined by a so-called finite L-presentation. This type of presentation incorporates all finite presentations as well as certain infinite presentations. The algorithm allows a variety of polycyclic quotients ranging ...
متن کاملEquations for Chow and Hilbert Quotients
We give explicit equations for the Chow and Hilbert quotients of a projective scheme X by the action of an algebraic torus T in an auxiliary toric variety. As a consequence we provide GIT descriptions of these canonical quotients, and obtain other GIT quotients of X by variation of GIT quotient. We apply these results to find equations for the moduli space M0,n of stable genus zero n-pointed cu...
